Slide through the deck below to see some of my costume mood boards and reasons for my character designs.
Kelly's Costume Board
Kelly is the protagonist & (in the final reveal) the villain. The entire movie I designed her to look unassuming & militantly ordinary. As a motherless teen, she had to assume that role & that's reflected in her (mostly) conservative attire. Her controlling nature makes her pay attention to every detail in her wardrobe, including color coordinating her pajamas & socks. She always has a watch to make sure she's always on time. Kelly treats her clothes like a school girl uniform.
Abby's Costume Board
Abby is the colorful light in this rather dark movie. Because she is the only person who sees the ghost that haunts the house it was important for me to design her to embody childhood innocence. She loves to dress up in unconventional ways, which only makes her that much more unconvincing when she reveals she is seeing the ghost of her mom. By looking at her, I wanted the audience to see her as nothing more than a highly imaginative child.
Robin's Costume Board
Robin's costumes are a reflection of her bohemian lifestyle & connection with the spirit world. She is an artist in every sense of the word & a collector, which is why she chooses to wear her art as well as vintage pieces she's collected over the years. Her color palette is rich with earth tones that parallel her desire to be a grounded mother figure to her boyfriend's kids. I made sure her looks were full of textures & patterns so that she is jarringly different from Kelly, her competition.
